ASIAir Pro External WiFi Antenna Modification Service

The built-in antenna of the ASIAir Pro works okay for short distances, but because of the metal case it has difficulty connecting if you are not close to the WiFi access point. This modification service adds an external WiFi Antenna to your ASIAir Pro. In internal testing this results in a WiFi signal increase of roughly 20dBm over the stock PCB antenna!

Send me your ASIAir Pro and I'll carefully hand-modify it to add a U.FL connector to the Pi 4, connect it up, disconnect the PCB antenna so it doesn't interfere, professionally mount the external antenna, and test it. The service includes all parts including a 2 dBi adjustable antenna, labor, and the return shipping.

Why this modification?

This modification increases the usable range of the ASIAir Pro by getting the antenna outside of the box. You can also use any external antenna that you want with it, provided it supports an RP-SMA connector.

Does the external antenna provide a better WiFi signal?

That depends on the choice of antenna. However, in my testing I've noticed an improvement of about -20dBm over the built-in antenna. The majority of this benefit is simply because after the modification service the antenna is outside of the metal case. Do you support modifying the older ASIAir Pro case style?

Yes! Both the older and the current case styles are supported. See the photo section for an example of the difference. They are both supported.

What quality assurance (QA) testing is performed?

Similar to my other services, following the modification, every Pi is tested using a partially automated process to confirm that the new antenna connection is working properly. These are all logged by Pi serial number along with the test statistics to determine a PASS/FAIL state. A QA testing certificate is provided with every individual Pi following a successful PASS.

Follow these instructions carefully for the service:

1. After your purchase I will message you with my address so you can send me the device.
2. Take your ASIAir Pro that you want modified and carefully pack it up for shipping. Remove the microSD card before sending (I will be using my own for testing). Wrap the ASIAir Pro in bubble wrap or paper crush wrap, or place it inside the original box which has foam padding. Then put that inside a box and ship it to me (address will be provided after checkout). Make sure to give me a tracking number for the shipment so I can confirm that the device will safely arrive.
3. Once I receive the ASIAir Pro I will make the modifications and test that the new antenna is working correctly. This typically takes 1-2 business days.
4. Return shipping back to you is included (for domestic) and I'll ship it out once it works and provide you the tracking number.

We guarantee against any inadvertent damages to the device including up to full replacement. Damages due to improper packaging or shipping prior to me receiving the device are not covered by the guarantee (pack it well!).
